The Church realizes the challenges and problems to be Catholic nowadays. That's why the theme of WYD08 is  "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses" (Acts 1:8)

This was spoken by Jesus after He resurrected but before He ascended to heaven. He told the disciples not to leave Jerusalem and to wait for the power of the Holy Spirit to descend upon them. By that time, the disciples had already received the Holy Spirit when Jesus appeared to them (see John 20:22). However, they were not yet ready for ministry work and to be His witnesses.

The disciples constantly prayed and waited for 9 days, and on the 10th day, the Holy Spirit was poured down onto the disciples as seen in Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost. Since then, those disciples were empowered by the Holy Spirit to do what Jesus had commissioned them to do.

WYD08 is a special time for us to seek the Holy Spirit – His grace and gifts. The theme is a calling from God, through the Church, to every Catholic.

This charismatic prayer meeting on the 16th July is an event that will help us experience the vigor and might of the Holy Spirit as the disciples did on the day of Pentecost.
